Sony To Launch New PlayStation 5 Pro Variant Later This Year

Sony may launch the PlayStation 5 “Pro” version later this year. The PS5 Pro will reportedly have an upgraded GPU, an AI accelerator, and other improvements, according to a report by Insider Gaming.

With a clock speed of 576 GB/s, the PS5 Pro’s system memory will perform more efficiently than the PS5’s 448 GB/s, representing a substantial bandwidth improvement of 28 percent. The “Pro” version is expected to include the same eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU as the PS5, and it will also have a “High CPU Frequency Mode,” which will enhance clock speeds to a maximum of 3.85GHz, a 10% increase above the PS5’s 3.5GHz clock speed.

The audio subsystem will be improved with a 35% increase in performance to support sound effects of higher quality.

More GPU improvements planned for the PS5 Pro were revealed via recent leaks originating from documents on the PlayStation developer page.

Additionally, the article speculates that the PS5 Pro might come with 1TB of storage in addition to a detachable disc drive, similar to the more streamlined PS5 model.

Although Sony hasn’t yet issued an official statement about its plans, the corporation is anticipated to release the PS5 later this year.

The forthcoming console is expected to have “2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)” and rendering speeds that are 45 percent quicker than the PS5. With 33.5 teraflops of single-precision computing capability compared to the PS5’s 10.28 teraflops, the PS5 Pro is reportedly expected to deliver up to three times the compute power of the PS5.
